Lessons from the drama Acolyte
It's unfortunate that the show has been canceled, but I'll list what I think objectively.
⚪︎Canon resources were not used to the fullest extent
The success of SW live-action dramas so far has been due to the fact that they have made full use of the canon setting.
The framework created by Lucas has been strengthened by Lucasfilm with official settings, ensuring the unity and consistency of all works. At the same time as new discoveries, it has the effect of bringing about a lot of empathy and deepening understanding.
However, in order to understand it, it is essential to have Lucas's framework in your head. Most people don't, so it was true that the hurdle was high.
So Acolyte lowers the hurdle. It is set 100 years before EP1 so that it is not bound by Lucas' framework.
This means that canon resources are not used to the fullest extent.
It is true that Acolyte is understandable as a standalone show and is beginner-friendly.
On the other hand, from the perspective of core fans, it left a rather unsatisfying impression.
⚪︎Story tempo
The defining feature of Dave Filoni's immensely popular works is the short viewing time. He thinks about how to immerse viewers in the world of SW within a short constraint. There are no unnecessary scenes. The story is refined from the scriptwriting stage. Are the settings and images powerful? Does the story move forward?
I think this is why Lucas chose him as his first disciple.
Speed is what Lucas is conscious of.
However, in the case of Acolyte, the tempo is slow. Perhaps there is no time constraint, but the slowness of the story is tiresome.
With streaming dramas, you have to wait every week, but it backfired.
In a fast-paced society, a slow tempo is a problem.
⚪︎Please make season 2 in comics and paperbacks
Since it was canceled, there is a lot of demand. Now that SW books have calmed down, it must be a good catalyst.
Don't change the script for season 2, just get creative.
