Bad Batch S2 Episode 5 Impressions(Caution for spoilers)
It was a powerful episode in which a monster resembling Godzilla appeared.
Plot aside, let's think about owning a droid.
Fie the pirate has stored her vaunted story in the droid Meru. It should be a very valuable droid, but for some reason it is outdated and worn out. She seems to have saved a lot of data and she is her property.
At the end, unfortunately, it is destroyed by Godzilla. It seemed that she had lost her fortune in exchange for her life. Unable to obtain her desired treasure.
But after that she is shy. She said that Meru's data had been backed up. She was always copying the droid's contents in case she lost it. That's why the droid itself can be a cheap rag.
In this way, there were also people who managed data wisely without being particular about the droid itself. Certainly, buying a droid at a high price entails risks.
It may be lost, stolen or damaged. What is really precious is the memory inside, and if you have that, you can reproduce (restore) even the same type of droid.
Anakin did something similar. The creator of 3PO had backed up the data on his buddy's R2. The idea is to designate a droid's backup destination to another droid. Anakin assumed that 3PO's data would be lost. In fact, 3PO's data is erased by Captain Antilles.
However, no one other than Anakin knows that the backup data is stored in R2. Your memory is safe. R2 knew 3PO more than 3PO. The great thing about R2 is that it didn't just store it, it indexed it against his own data. And he dreams in his hibernation. Along with the memory of 3PO.
At the Battle of Exegol, 3PO is restored by reading the backup data from R2. It seems that the memory before being erased by Antilles has also been restored, and it becomes a complete body. (Possibly restoreable to other protocol droids)
As Anakin expected, he didn't lose his memory.
There's also Lando's droid, L3.
She was Lando's girlfriend and an important droid, but she was destroyed before the Kessel Run sailing. It seems that Lando didn't back up her, but Han instructed her to combine with the Falcon and transfer the navigation data to the Falcon.
Such an idea seems to be unique to the era of smartphones.
JJ Abrams, who took the idea of 3PO, is an iPhone user.
I'm not sure if it came from the concept of iCloud backup, but it's certainly a very relatable idea.
